Introducing Irish multi-instrumentalist and songwriter - Uly

‘fishing’ is the new single from Irish multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Uly. A poignant exploration into the concept of ‘the one’, the single is the perfect soundtrack for the closing days of summer and with its glorious horns and captivating vocal announces the arrival of a unique and fascinating artist. Deeply influenced by pop, soul, jazz and nostalgic production values, Uly’s work is highly personal, exploratory and largely revolves around identity. Speaking about the single, he says:

“‘fishing’ turned into a conversation with myself exploring my own thoughts on love as a concept - and by extension, the idea of 'the one'. Is there such a thing as 'the one'? Or are there many ones? What does love look like for me - and finally, what do I want?

Although early days, Uly (né Rafino Murphy) is already being talked about as one of the most exciting new artists in the Irish music scene and earned his music high profile placements on the critically acclaimed BBC series ‘Normal People’ and ‘Conversations With Friends’. His releases to date can also claim and ever-growing collection of collaborations, testament to his talent and creativity.

After studying Astrophysics in University and prior to beginning his professional music career, Uly spent some time interning with a physics lab in Okinawa. He left that world for music, feeling an undeniable call to create. Although the Dubliner cut his teeth playing metal and grunge music and song writing as a teen, it would be only after picking up the trumpet and leaving the hardcore scene behind that Uly would surface.

With more new music set for release throughout this year and into 2023 and a successful festival season under his belt, 2022 is shaping up to be a special year for Uly.
